Pupil Development Grant

At Ysgol Sant Dunawd, we receive a Pupil Development Grant (PDG) from the Welsh Government. This funding is provided to support pupils who are eligible for free school meals (eFSM), including those who are transitionally protected. The purpose of the grant is to help reduce the impact of poverty on educational attainment and ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to thrive. More information about the Welsh Government funding and definition can be accessed by clicking here .

During the 2025–2026 academic year, our allocation of £4,600 is to be used to part-fund a member of staff to:

  • Support for wellbeing through nurture groups and provision.
  • Continue opportunities to access additional support for literacy and numeracy to support reducing any impact on disadvantaged pupils.

A smaller proportion of the grant will also contribute to targeted literacy and numeracy interventions where pupils need additional support. Our use of PDG is closely linked to our School Development Plan (SDP) priorities, helping to ensure that funding supports whole-school improvement.

We regularly monitor the impact of all PDG-funded provision to ensure it is improving outcomes for pupils and contributing to closing the attainment gap. We publish how this grant is utilised as part of our School Development Plan, a comprehensive plan which is agreed by the governing body and monitored by Wrexham Local Authority.

Last year, our combined allocation was £12,650.

It is not appropriate for the school to publish a detailed plan as it could identify individual pupils.

The funding is not used to support general staffing or day-to-day running costs. All parents can be reassured that all children are treated fairly and equally and that all information in relation to the PDG is treated with discretion and confidentiality.
