The Criw Cymraeg are a group of children from each year group chosen to encourage the use of Welsh around the school.

What is the Welsh Language Charter?
The Welsh language is one of the treasures of Wales. It is part of what defines us as people and as a nation. The Welsh Assembly Government’s ambition is to see the number of people able to enjoy speaking and using Welsh reach a million by 2050.
The simple objective of the Language Charter is to provide a clear framework, which can be used to promote and increase the use of Welsh by children in a whole school context. In a nutshell, the Charter’s main aim is to promote a strong Welsh ethos in schools and to provide a range of enriching activities that propel the children to enjoy learning Welsh.
The Language Charter exhorts participation from every member of the school community, and members of the school workforce and council, the pupils and their parents, school governors and the wider community are all encouraged to take full ownership of it. The Criw Cymraeg are instrumental in leading and driving the Language Charter forward at Ysgol Sant Dunawd.
The Criw Cymraeg have been assigned the following roles:
- To promote a Welsh ethos in Ysgol Sant Dunawd by encouraging learners to speak Welsh. They do this by celebrating everybody when they hear Welsh being spoken.
- To deliver the Welsh Patrwm y Pythefnos (Phrase of the Fortnight) in assembly.
- To implement Cymraeg Campus initiatives and gather evidence to achieve our school targets.
- To support Welsh within the classroom, around the school and on the yard.
Cymraeg Campus is the framework we follow to ensure that we are covering the relevant Welsh skills and language in our everyday learning. There are three tiers to achieve – Efydd (Bronze), Arian (Silver), Aur (Gold). We are very proud that we have achieved our Efydd Assessment, currently working towards our Arian Award.
