A very warm welcome to our class page! I’m Mr. Wyeth the Year 2 & 3 class teacher. I am looking forward to the forthcoming academic year with a plethora of exciting learning ahead of us. Our class ethos is driven by the Sant Dunawd Learning Super Powers – which ensure that our learners collaborate, reflect, persevere, are curious and resilient!
The children’s learning and well being are supported brilliantly by Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Davies – our classroom assistants. Every Friday, the children have the opportunity to develop their relationship with the outside world through forest school – this experience is led by Mrs. Johnson.
Homework
At Ysgol Sant Dunawd, we believe in a little and often and that practice makes progress! The children have weekly spellings to practise on Spelling Shed (to complete at least 5 games) and weekly times tables practice on Times Tables Rock Stars (at least 10 minutes). We also encourage the children to read a few pages of their reading book each night, aloud to an adult (they can also read on Oxford Owl). There will be a task set on My Maths on a Friday to be completed by the following Thursday. This will sometimes be linked to the work completed in class that week or an introduction to new concepts to be taught the following week. Our Inquiry
Our first inquiry (topic) this year is titled ‘What’s underground and why is it important?’. The children will investigate the fascinating sub-terrain world; from man made underground structures to natures burrowers. Our learning journey will start by delving into ‘The Street Beneath My Feet’ a hugely impressive pull out picture book. Following this, the children will have opportunities to consider archaeology, engineering, conservation and transport. We cannot wait to get started!
Our Trips
Dosbarth Ceiriog thoroughly enjoyed an educational visit to ‘Catalyst’ in Widnes. The visitor centre provides stimulating science activities and learning experiences – in addition to exciting science workshops. Our class learned about sugar and the impact it has on our health, alongside this we also carried out an investigation about how to look after our teeth and created out own toothpaste. It was an exceptionally fun and exciting educational experience.
Did you know…?
The class name Ceiriog means ‘happy-go-lucky, friendly and is also the name of a river‘. The River Ceiriog is an 18 miles long river in north east Wales. It is a tributary of the River Dee.
